The last time Travis LaBoy pulled shoulder pads over his head, he was getting ready to play in the Super Bowl for the Arizona Cardinals 19 months ago.

In today's society, it's important that we all join forces and do what we can in order to help each other. If we do so, the world will certainly be a much better place to live in.  According to reports, San Francisco 49ers outside linebacker Travis LaBoy apparently believes in this principle as well.

For the second time in a week, the 49ers decided that some draft-day needs just can't wait. They added outside linebacker depth by agreeing to terms Tuesday with Travis LaBoy, a Bay Area native whose most recent game came with the Arizona Cardinals in 2008.

Travis LaBoy has been more spectator, it seems, than manic defender chasing down quarterbacks in his first season with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Arizona Cardinals defense isn’t the only beneficiary of each Travis LaBoy sack. Every time the veteran defensive end brings down an opposing quarterback, he donates $500 to his foundation--Supporting Autistic Causes for Kids (S.A.C.K) --which provides educational, recreational and physical activities for children with autism.

Fans can vote for one of these five players on NFL.com/gmc beginning immediately following Monday Night Football and ending on Thursday at 4:00 p.m. ET to determine the GMC Sierra Defensive Player of the Week. The winner will be announced Thursday evening on NFL.com.

Given that Travis LaBoy worshiped the 49ers as a kid in Marin and given that the 49ers didn't even pursue the 27-year-old, 6-foot-3, 260-pound pass rusher when he was a free agent in the offseason, LaBoy had just cause to spike the football in their face with 1:49 left in the game Sunday when he had a victory-sealing quarterback sack and fumble recovery.

It is Travis LaBoy's NFL goal to be a champion someday. At least he's starting to feel like one.

If the preseason – and the stats – counted, Travis LaBoy would have a chance at his own belt right now.  LaBoy had the faux-championship belt, speckled with jewels to mirror one worn by boxers or wrestlers, made so it could be given to the Cardinals linebacker who notches the most sacks this season.

The Arizona Cardinals finished 8-8 with a three-game improvement from last season. Had they not lost to San Francisco twice, two games they should've easily won, they would have made it to the playoffs. 

Travis LaBoy grew up in Marin as a fan of the 49ers. Now he will get a chance to play them twice a year.

Travis LaBoy has been a hand-on-the-ground, true defensive end for most of his four NFL seasons, and in college as well.

I have been watching my three sons play football from the sidelines since they were 9-year olds.  Many times I was the only one there to start the clock, chalk the field or bring the water. It was the commitment to their goal and success that drove all of us.
